Different illuminants (shown in the above diagrams) have different spectral energy distribution and therefore a given object can only reflect different energy distribution.

Colored surfaces appear to retain their approximate daylight appearance even when viewed under LIGHT SOURCES that differ markedly from daylight.

The reflected light from a colored Object activate the visual process in THE HUMAN EYE and brain.

One can see a white tablecloth in the same white color, whether it is illuminated by a light bulb in the evening, by sunlight during the day or at a picnic in a deciduous forest by greenish light.

Snow appears white in the low illumination of moonlight, as well as in sunlight 800,000 times as bright.

Yet the human eye and brain are such a superb systems that they are able to compensate for these color differences and normal appearing colors are perceived.

COLOR CONSTANCY as an optical illusion makes all light squares alike,
even under the shadow that makes square B exactly the same shade of grey as square A.
